Vegan Pizza from Pie-Face Pizza in Reno, NV

Glass – While I was off work going through Breast Cancer treatment, I took some fused glass classes. Kind of “art therapy” if you will. I credit glass for getting me through “chemo brain” and it put me on the path to being myself again. Recently we set up a glass studio in the garage where I can play with glass. I have a lot to learn, but I’m having a good time. There’s something magical about getting up in the morning and opening up the kiln to see how something turned out.

Food- I love to eat, and being a long time vegetarian and recently vegan, I look for restaurants that offer many choices.  For some of my favorites when traveling click here.   I’m listing my favorites (In the Sacramento, CA area) here:

  • My new favorite restaurant is Sugar Plum Vegan in midtown.  I recommend the Tempeh Reuben Panini and the german chocolate cupcake with coconut pecan frosting.  All vegan.
  • The Sunflower Drive In in Fair Oaks is all vegetarian. Steve will order the super nutburger, and I prefer the nutty taco. Try it, you’ll like it.
  • The Loving Hut in Elk Grove is all Vegan!  …and it’s delicious!  There’s another Loving Hut in Sacramento but I haven’t tried it yet.
  • I’ve been craving vegan dogs lately and my favorite places to go are Capitol Dawg in midtown, and Top Dawg on Del Paso Blvd which both have vegan frank options.  At Capitol Dawg I love the veggiefornia minus the cheese.  Yum!
  • I love Mexican food.  While I can usually find something at most Mexican restaurants, at 524 Mexican on Northgate I can get potato tacos with no cheese.
  • I love Indian Food.  Some of my favorites are Curry Corner in Natomas and Pooja Indian Grill in West Sacramento. They both have lunch buffets where you can have a variety of dishes.  After taking a few Indian cooking classes myself at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op I have a new appreciation of all the work and ingredients that go into a large vaiety of Indian food.
  • Todo Un Poco Mexican and Italian Bistro – On Laguna Blvd. at Laguna Main Street, One mile east of I-5.  Before I became vegan my favorite was the Punjabi Pizza, it is amazing.  The owner, Marie Mertz, is very accommodating, and has made me this without the cheese or sauce.  You can get a Punjabi burrito, or Punjabi plate, although you’ll have to ask as these aren’t on the menu. As you can tell, I’m partial to the Punjabi dishes, but this is just a teeny tiny part of Marie’s menus. Everyone who’s gone with me that’s eaten the Italian or Mexican food, also has raved about it. If you visit, tell her the “Punjabi People” sent you.

Places I still need to try with Vegan Options: (Contact me with suggestions for vegan friendly places to try)

  • Dad’s Sandwiches at 13 & S.  Every Saturday they have 2 vegan sandwiches and a vegan soup.
  • zpizza in Roseville.  They have vegan pizza options with Daiya (vegan) cheese).

Music - Steve and I are both obsessed with music, which is how our music store (Obsessed With Music 1993-2000) was named.  We still have the website.  Check it out and you can win cool stuff!
